Why it exists
The creatures of folklore live scattered: one in a Wikipedia entry, another in an out-of-print book, another only in the oral tradition of a region. Bestiarypedia gathers that knowledge into a single structured, comparable place, where you can see not only what a being is, but how it relates to others across cultures, hierarchies and transformations. The goal is to be the best online reference on each creature, in every one of our languages.
Selection criteria
We do not publish by volume. A being is included because it has documented presence in a real mythological, religious or folkloric tradition, and because we can describe it with rigor and sources. We prioritize notable, well-attested entities and build outward from there toward the more obscure. An entry is only published when we believe it is genuinely the best page available about that being in that language.
Our stance on artificial intelligence
We are transparent: we use language models as a drafting tool, always under prompts directed by a human editor and with human review and curation before publishing. We do not hide that we use AI —that would be dishonest and unlawful under the EU AI Act— but neither do we let it write on its own. Editorial judgment, source selection and the final decision are human.
